The majority of people who get involved with Carlton want to act, so we try to offer as many opportunities for you budding thespians to get up on stage as possible.
We offer up to three main productions each year, most of which are staged under the lights of the Studio at New Wimbledon Theatre with a full cast auditioned for each production. Anyone is welcome to come along to these auditions, dates of which will be announced well in advance on the website. If you are lucky enough to be cast in a production, you will need to become a member of Carlton, details of how to join can be found by clicking on Membership below.
There are also regular opportunities to appear in our popular rehearsed readings (fully produced plays, but without the need to learn hundreds of lines).
Finally, the annual Carlton Showcase is an opportunity to showcase your short sketches, skits, scenes and show tunes to your fellow actors – a perfect way to demonstrate your acting talents before the Spring production.
The website will be updated regularly with information about upcoming productions and auditions, so please make sure you drop back here regularly to see how you can get involved.
Carlton Theatre Group is always on the lookout for fresh directing talent. Whether you are a veteran member who has secretly harboured the dream of moulding a theatrical masterpiece or a newcomer with a vision, Carlton is the place to try your hand.
Most directors have an idea of the play they would like to direct, so we regularly send out a call for directors to put forward their ideas for full productions and rehearsed readings. The committee will then choose a lineup for the coming year, and will offer full support for casting, producing and marketing the production.
You don’t have to be a member to propose a play, although if your play is selected you will need to become a member of Carlton, details of how to join can be found by clicking on Membership below.
We also offer a great deal of support for those who wish to develop their directing skills without the responsibility of taking on a full production. Most of our directors will be willing to take on assistant directors who want to learn the ropes – allowing you to shadow the director and get involved with decision making. The annual Carlton Showcase is also the perfect place to start out with a short scene or sketch – check the website for details of how to get involved nearer the time.
